SQUIRRELS GET 100TH WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORYThe Charleston Fighting Squirrels picked up their 100th win in program history last Thursday as they knocked off the Semo Aces 15-1. Charleston banged out 13 hits on the night and rode the arm of Mark Freed to pick up the win.
“It’s nice to know the program has gotten this far,” said Squirrels Manager Michael Minner. “I’m not sure anyone ever expected this success. But I did. We have worked extremely hard to get to where we are and I’m proud of the kids and the community.”
Mark Freed got the win on the mound as he threw all five innings allowing just four hits. He struck out five and walked two. The run he allowed was unearned. “Mark threw the ball well. He threw strikes for the most part and mixed it up well. He kept the hitters of balance and used his defense,” said Minner. Freed will always be the winner of the 100th game in history. “It’s neat to say I won the 100th game, but I am just proud to say I was a part of this. These have been some of the best days of my life and I’m glad I got to spend them in Charleston with a great group of guys,” said Freed, a native of Oran, Missouri and a product of Scott County Central High School.
The Squirrels were led on offense by Ethan Browning and Tyler Whybark who both had two hits apiece including a home run. Freed added a double and a triple for the Squirrels.
