Fighting Squirrels get first win The Charleston Fighting Squirrels picked up their first win of the 2009 campaign by knocking off visiting Kennett Tuesday night. Charleston won the night cap 7-6 in extra innings after losing game one 10-2. James Naile picked up

the victory as he worked three innings of relief behind starter Tyler Whybark and reliever Zach Wilson.
Chase McClendon singled in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded to drive in Naile and give the Squirrels their first win.
Jason Showmaker led Charleston offensively with three runs batted in.
“We haven’t played real well yet, but it’s early.

These guys have had some time off and it’s going to take a little bit to get back in the swing of things. But I really like the make up of this team. I think we can be very competitive,” said Squirrel Manager Michael Minner.
Mikey Russell suffered the loss in game one as he allowed five runs in four innings. Steven Dooley and Mark Freed also pitched for the Squirrels. Zach Wilson led the offense with two hits.
The Squirrels suffered their first loss of the season Monday night at Cape 9-7. Charleston gave up seven unearned runs in the ballgame. Connor Scott suffered the loss for Charleston. He allowed 9 hits and just two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work.
“Connor threw the ball very well. He didn’t deserve to lose, but when you play defense the way we did you can’t really expect to win. It will get better,” said Minner.
Blake Gaddis led the Squirrels offensively with two hits and five RBI. He hit a three run homer in the sixth inning.
